Beaver Dam Escape Routes A Hot Whitetail Hunting Tip
from:Have You ever thought you had a buck cornered, only to find out that he would do the unexpected?
Mature bucks are notorious for doing the unexpected, as most deer hunters' are well aware of.
Here is a hot whitetail deer hunting tip for you.
Beaver dams are a great escape route for a buck, not that deer are afraid of the water, because they aren't. It's just that a beaver dam allows them to get to the other side of a body of water, without getting wet.
A beaver dam is what I call a funnel area. It is a great place to set up a stand or blind, especially if there are other hunters' in the area, and wind conditions are right.
The next time you are out hunting and you run across a beaver dam, check the perimeter out closely and you will be able to tell if the deer are using the dam as a travel route.
If there are tracks in the mud on either end of the dam, you may well have found a natural travel route. It could be a great place to ambush the master of that domain.
Take notice of the surrounding area, and ask yourself if there is any feed in the area, and the deer need to use the dam to get to the food.
If you can determine that this is the case, your next question to answer would be where is the bedding area?
Once you determine these two factors you will be able to know where to set up, and when to be there. Just remember, deer head for their respective bedding areas in the morning and head out to feeding areas in the late afternoon or evening hours.
Good luck in your endeavor. Don't let the master outsmart you! Be ready, he has probably crossed that beaver dam many many times, and wasn't bothered, so you will have the upper hand if he doesn't expect anything new.
Watch the wind carefully, and you may come home with a granddaddy of a buck.
